    Kaplan ASVAB 2006 Edition (Kaplan Asvab). I purchased this for my granddaughter who was preparing to take the ASVAB test. She said it was a great help to her.

    Good practice for ASVAB, much harder!. I am glad I purchased this book before taking the ASVAB to join the Air Force. I looked at it as one of the most important tests I will ever take. Not because it is necessarily difficult, but because it is used to qualify me for a job that I am going to be stuck with for at least the next 4 years of my life. If you score poorly, it narrows down your choice of jobs considerably and you may end up doing something you aren#039t particularly excited about.

    The book has several full length practice tests, including a preliminary test they give you at the front of the book that you take before you start studying, so that you know where your weak areas are, and what to focus on as you study. It has large areas focused on the AFQT sections, as well as sections for the General Science, Shop Knowledge, etc.

    I needed to brush up on my math the most, and was pleased to find that they provided a lot of helpful shortcuts specific to the ASVAB to help you get through it quicker and easier.

    I found the questions in the book to be considerably more difficult than the questions on the actual test. The actual test covered very basic algebra (factoring, order of operations, simple equations) and very basic geometry, and the rest was arithmetic and word problems. If you score well in the practice tests in this book, you will do even better on the real test!

    You can also ask your recruiter if they have a practice ASVAB test available that you can take in their office. It is an abbreviated test that only covers the AFQT portions, but it should give you a good idea of what you need to focus on, and what your final score will be. I got 99th percentile on the pre-test from the recruiter, and got 99th percentile on the real test as well, so it is a pretty good estimation of what your score will be.

    The book is definitely worth the small price you pay. If you are joining the military, this is an important test that can affect your life for the next 4 - 20 years, don#039t be unprepared!

    Math sample test questions much harder than actual test, Verbal is more representative. This book is detailed and extensive in its coverage of ASVAB topics. The one complaint I would lodge is that it#039s math sample tests use questions that are, in general, much harder than anything you will encounter on the real test. The real test is basic math with nothing very tricky. If you can master the Kaplan practice tests you WILL score a 96 or better on the real ASVAB. The instructional sections are good (especially the verbal), with good advice and test taking strategies. I would recommend the "ARCO ASVAB Math Review" for a more realistic representation of the math portion of the test. I used both this book and the ARCO book and scored a 97 (highest is 99).

    Excellent Book!. The Kaplan guide has everything I needed to prepare myself for the exam. The book was a great help for refreshing my memory in math and English for the test. Timing yourself on the practice tests is also a great way to make sure you are ahead of the game and never worry about time in the actual test.

    You will need to sit down and spend hours doing practice test and studying the material in the book but in the end it is worth it. The books three practice tests and study guides contained information that was invaluable in taking the test.

    The procedures and shortcuts they taught allowed me to feel confident taking the test. The material for some of the sections allowed me to score well in areas I really don#039t have much experience with (Automotive, electronics, science) Others have said the math was too hard but it meant that there was not one question I ran into to that I was unable to answer with time to spare.

    I would say this is one of the best study guides I have ever seen or used but be prepared to spend time doing the work. As I said it will take hours to go through the material and learn what you need. I believed this book had a direct result in scoring an AFQT of 99. Excellent Book!

    Great ASVAB review!. I purchased this book via Next Day Delivery on December 23, 2005 so I could receive it next day (24th) to study for the ASVAB test I was scheduled to take on December 28, 2005. I had only 4 days to read it. THIS BOOK IS AWESOME! I went through all the chapters with ease. Every chapter is full of details and graphics.

    It first starts with a FULL practice test, to see how well you are doing in each part of the ASVAB. With this results, you can clearly see on what areas you need to work hard. From here it starts covering the AFTQ sections (WK, PC, AR, MK) and then all the sub-tests from electronics to science they cover everything! After studying, you end your preparation with 2 FULL practice tests so you can see how much you improved and it WILL be a LOT!

    Believe me, what you study in the KAPLAN 2006 ASVAB review is what you will GET on the ASVAB. At least that was my experience. It#039s so good to refresh your knowledge of basic science, math, electronics, mechanic, physics, assembling objects, shop, paragraph comprehension and word knowledge that it surely is a "MUST-KEEP" for future reference. This is one of the BEST purchases of my life.

    And so that you would know how much it helped me, my AFQT score was a "modest" 97! With a GT score of: ARMY 135, NAVY 133, MARINES 138. Not to mention the outstanding scores on the sub-tests. I destroyed the ASVAB, thanks to God, my previous knowledge and effort, but also in great part thanks to the Kaplan 2006 ASVAB review. A BEST BUY!

    Comprehensive study guide for the ASVAB. You#039ll need this book if you want to go into a specific unit in the Armed Forces. Do well on the ASVAB, and you can get your choice.

    Great book for ASVAB. I owe my ASVAB score to this book, it raised my ASVAB score 20 points from the practice. The only difference between its computer sample tests and the actual ASVAB, is it has 5 possible answers while this software in the book only has 4. This is a must get for anyone who has to take the test.

    Wrong answers/no errata. I purchased this book based solely on the reviews posted here. I immediately noticed some typos and more importantly, a couple of wrong answers in the chapter quizes. The wrong answers are what has really scared me - in one instance, the explanation for the answer they give contradicts the answer given. I stopped studying from the book so that I could obtain the errata sheet - I certainly didn#039t want to learn incorrect information/techniques. To my surprise, I didn#039t find any errata sheets on their website, so I e-mailed customer service to obtain one. I was given a one-page errata for the Practice Test only - these were errors I hadn#039t noticed, but they stopped at the Practice Test - they didn#039t proceed into the chapters of the book. When I asked Customer Service for a more complete errata, they responded that they didn#039t have one.

    I find it difficult to study from a book in which I have no confidence.

    Previous reviews contain insufficient information.. As of September 28, 2001 there are two reviews, each of which give this exam guide, by the respective reviewer, one star from five. In both instances, the given reason is that the CD-ROM is not functional. While I agree that this is a sufficient and sensible problem with the publication as a whole, it fails to address the question I have, the question I imagine anyone seeking an exam guide would keep foremost in their judgement... did this book (Amazon / Borders is, after all, at heart a BOOKSTORE, not a software store) serve to better prepare you for the ASVAB

    - And if you cannot use a book without an associated CD then I, for my own part, certainly hope you either didn#039t take the exam or you failed it. I don#039t want YOU in the military I mean to join - not in THESE times.

    PS. I have given this publication one star for the purposes of continuity only - I have not yet seen and can therefore neither endorse nor demean it.

    CD-ROM is Not GOOD!!. I really do not recommend this book because CD-rom that comes along with the text book doesn#039t work properly. I tried three different computers to set it up, but I failed to do so. !!!!!!!You don#039t want to go through the same thing I did!!!!

    Awsome. -My Navy recruiter told me about this book and I ordered it. I recieved it 3 days later from amazon.com and found out this is the best preperation I found. If your having trouble with the words on the asvab, get this book. The cd works great. Why the other 3 people gave this such a low rating I don#039t know. GET THIS BOOK AND SCORE HIGH!!!!

    It works to get in.. A lot of work, but it is worth it if you want a militery carrear.

    Disappointed. This book is full of wrong answers in the math sections.
    I bought it for my step-son, and it was no surprise when he needed help with a math problem. It was a surprise when I got the same answer he had, and it disagreed with the book. I reworked the problem a couple different ways to make sure I was right, then I told him that the book had a mistake. Every educational book has a mistake or two. But, the mistakes kept coming. Yes, I had to explain problems that had the correct answers in the book, but too often I would explain problems and find that the book had the wrong answer. I am an Electrical Engineer. This level of math is very simple for me, but apparently it is too difficult for the writers of this book. And, I am a perfectionist. I do not dispute the book until I have reworked the problem several times, different ways if possible. It is extremely disappointing that a company as esteemed as McGraw Hill would publish such rubbish. My respect for them has just been brought down a couple of notches. Mike has spent more than an hour sometimes on a problem only to find out from me that he was doing it correctly from the start.
    The only reason I give this book two stars instead of one is that his recruiter gave him another book (by Kaplan), but Mike did not want to return this one. He says that the explanations are more understandable. ...Go figure, they have good explanations but wrong answers. I#039m not sure how helpful that is.

    EXCELLENT!!!!. This book has everything you need to know about the ASVAB test. This book covers everything from motor vehicle parts and shop tools, to mathmatics and defining words. I do not usually like to pick up a book and learn about math or science and other subjects, but this book makes me want to learn. This book seems to be able to make a person much brighter. I highly recommend this book. Thank war veretans for all they have done for us. HOO-YAH!!!!

    Good test prep book!. This book contains several tests for each subject area, with accompanying answers and explanation. The word knowledge section was very good. It tells you ways to improve your word knowledge skills and provides a list of over 1000 words that can be used to boost this skill. We (my son and I) are using this book to help him prepare for the ASVAB and have found this book to be very helpful. We are also using the ARCO book in conjunction with this, you can#039t over practice! This book (Barron#039s) is also the book used by the community college in it#039s six week class for ASVAB prep. We have found it to be a very useful tool!

    Major mistakes I want Refund. This book has so many editoral mistakes throughout the book, talk about making me feel smart for catching on, but isnt this book supposed to help people not confuse them and make studying harder. I am outraged that this book was released without editing. I would love to get a refund..and will never purchase McGraw-Hill again.
